Costume and Make-up Information

Costumes!***
  • Unless otherwise noted, everyone in the cast will need black Jazz shoes or sneakers and no show socks.

  • We strongly encourage all girls to have a skin colored leotard or a light colored cami to wear under their costumes.  (The leotards can be purchased at any store that sells dancewear.) This allows the girls to be able to change costumes quickly among a large group of cast members (male and female).

  • We also strongly recommend that each cast member bring a labeled laundry basket or some other large tote to each tech rehearsal and show. This is an easy way to store and keep track of all of their make-up, hair supplies, costumes pieces and outside clothes.

Make-up
All cast members need Make-Up--including the boys. You will need to apply more than "everyday makeup" as the stage lights will wash you out some. Please, no over the top applications unless instructed by the production team! Any additional specialty character make-up will be applied at the school by our make-up personnel.

Below is a list of all the makeup you will need.  Please note that you should choose a foundation that is one shade darker than your actual skin color because of the stage lighting. You are welcome to use make-up that you have from past productions, however, for hygienic reasons, we recommend that you buy new eye liner and mascara if you have had it over three months.

Everyone should arrive to dress rehearsal and the shows with hair and make-up already done.  However, please bring your make-up with you in case touch-ups are needed.
All cast members should wear:
  • Foundation
  • Blush
  • Eye Shadow (Neutral Colors)
  • Eye Liner (Black or Brown)
  • Mascara (Black or Brown)
  • Lipstick ("Garnet" or similar color.) No pale pinks or bright reds.
  • Make-Up Remover Wipes

Additional items you might want or need:
  • make-up bag
  • applicators
  • make-up remover wipes
  • eye pencil sharpeners
  • wedges/sponges

Speciality Makeup

The following cast members will have speciality make-up applied by our make-up crew

  • Cat
  • Horton
  • Gertrude
  • Mayzie
  • Bird Girls 1-3
  • Wickershams 1-3
  • Yertle the Turtle
  • Vlad Vladikoff
  • The Grinch

*Many characters who are not listed above will receive a small amount of speciality makeup (ie rosy cheeks, whiskers, button nose, etc ), but should arrive with their basic stage makeup already on.

Hair
  • WHO GIRLS: Style hair in two braids with pipe cleaners braided in. This will allow us to manipulate the hair for your Who characters and quickly change it for your other characters.
  • GIRLS: Style hair so that it is pulled away from the face!  All bangs need to be pulled back off of the forehead. Headbands, barrettes, or ponytails are all good options. If you are a girl playing a boy, please pull your hair back in a low ponytail or bun.
  • BOYS: Style hair neatly. Boys with longer bangs need to make sure their hair is styled in such a way that their eyes are visible.
